Mountain biking in the shadow of Matterhorn
This is what freeride mountain biking is all about. Riding your bike
in the company of one of the most famous mountains in the world, the Matterhorn,
is a very special experience. At the same time as you feel the adrenaline pumping
in your veins descending the fast trails, for each breath you take you taste the
history of this place. The cradle of mountaineering.
About 1600 meters above the village Zermatt, we start our journey down. This ride
has it all. It starts off with about 900 meters of high alpine terrain, in which the
trail consists of some really technical rocky sections mixed with long stretches of
fast smooth riding. Some of the rocks are quite sharp and if you have not equipped
your bike with downhill tubes you could be in for a flat fest.
Further down, the environment transforms into a perfectly packed singletrack
with a seemingly endless sequence of natural berms and switchbacks.
